Adnan Polat became chairman in 2008 and Michael Skibbe became manager. The club won the Turkish Super Cup after beating Kayserispor 2-1. In the 2008–2009 season, Galatasaray were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by Steaua Bucureşti, though qualified for the UEFA Cup.
