Joey Don Essex (born 29 July 1990) is an English television personality and DJ for Sugar Hut, a nightclub in bentwood, Essex. He rose to fame in 2011 after appearing in the ITV2 television series The Only Way is Essex  Essex and his sister Frankie left the show in 2013, although his cousin Chloe remains on it.

Viewers were surprised to see how Joey lived on an appearance on Through the Keyhole in February this year when fans were shown around his luxury mansion in Chigwell, Essex. Joey was also seen to have a brand new Lamborghini worth £200K and a a new 4×4.

Keith Lemon was also seen ribbing Joey over a £1,300 t shirt in his wardrobe and a pair of neon socks that cost £140.

Personal Life

Essex was engaged to fellow TOWIE cast member Sam Faiers but later split up. They reconciled later in 2012. He then proposed to Sam again in March 2013 and she accepted. However, the couple split up again on-screen in June 2013 following several arguments between the pair. In October 2014, they announced they had split up “for good”.

Essex, whose mother died when he was ten years old, has been an ambassador for Child Bereavement UK since 2014.

Professional Career

Joey Essex first hogged the limelight in 2011, when he became a part of the popular semi-reality series ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ (TOWIE). He shared screen space with his cousin, Chloe Sims —a popular television personality—in this project.

Although he essayed a supporting role in ‘Series 2’ of this project, he bagged a meatier role in the subsequent season. Thus, Joey Essex made people sit back and notice his talent.

Joey Essex was also a part of the popular music video ‘Last Christmas’ along with the rest of the TOWIE ensemble. This video, which was released back in 2011, is slowly but steadily making waves on YouTube and has garnered over a million views.

Apart from ‘TOWIE’, Joey Essex has acted in several other popular British television shows such as ‘Daybreak’, ‘8 out of 10 cats’, ‘Loose Women’, ‘This Morning’ and ‘The Xtra Factor’.

In one of the episodes of the British game show ‘All Star Family Fortunes’, he represented ‘TOWIE’. His team was competing against the cast of ‘Benidorm’ – a British sitcom.

Very little is known about his parents, except for the fact that his mother, Tina, committed suicide when he was just 10 year old. Joey was told that his mother fell to her death, but in 2010, his sister, Frankie, apprised him of the truth.

He attended West Hatch High School.

Essex left school in 2006 having received a U in Drama a C in Art and a D in Wood Tech at GcCSE Ten years later, as part of a TV programme, he proudly added a D in GCSE GENERAL STUDIES  commenting that “I still don’t really know what GCSE stands for.
