He is a retired American boxer who was the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. At age 13, Tyson had already been arrested 38 times. His saving grace came when he was forced to attend the Tryon School for Boys where his talent in the boxing ring was evident.

A juvenile detention center counselor and former boxer ‘Bobby Stewart’ started to train Tyson and would eventually introduce the phenom to Cus D’Amato legendary boxing manager and trainer who quickly took over Tyson’s training responsibilities and even became Mike’s legal guardian when at 16 his mother died.

In 1988, Tyson’s personal life began to fall apart. He was passing through a divorce with his then wife Robin Givens.

Tyson fired his longtime trainer and mentor Kevin Rooney. Without Kevin by his side he started to slip as a boxer.

Michael Gerald Tyson was born on June 30, 1966 in Brooklyn New York and he grew up in a dangerous neighborhood. His first victory came at the 1982 Junior Olympics where won a silver medal.

Tyson made his professional debut against Hector Mercedes on March 6, 1985 as the fight ended with a knock out from Tyson. He won 26 out of 28 professional fights by KO/TKO and began to attract media attention.

Unfortunately, Cus D’Amato died in November 1985. With the death of his long time trainer and father figure, Mike was angry and looking for payback.

Tyson had his first televised fight where he easily defeated opponent Jesse Ferguson on February 16th 1986. At age 20, he became the youngest Heavyweight champion in boxing history.

Ever since, Tyson started a journey to box all top heavyweights in the world. He also defeated and won the belts from Pinklon Thomas, James Smith and Tony Tucker. He had become an American boxing icon.

In 1990, Tyson lost his undisputed championship to Buster Douglas because he was out of shape and overweight when he lost to the underdog Douglas.
