He is a three-time Grammy award winning hip-hop producer, singer and songwriter. Stevie J was raised in Rochester, New York by his father after his mother abandoned the family.

Stevie J was discovered by Bad Boy Entertainment’s president and founder Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs who signed him to a contract on the spot after being blown away by Stevie’s vocals and musical talent and after signing with Bad Boy, Stevie J moved behind the mic and started producing hits for Bad Boys’ all-star roster.

However, he produced the majority of 112’s first album but it was his work with Notorious BIG that put him on the hip-hop map. 

Stevie J produced Biggie’s entire second album B.I.G ‘Life After Death’ including the classic tracks ‘Notorious Thugs’ and ‘Mo Money Mo Problems’. ‘Life After Death’ has sold over 20 million copies to date. 

He also won his first Grammy for his work on Mariah Carey’s album Butterfly, specifically her song ‘Honey’.

In June 2014, Stevie J was arrested in Georgia on charges that he has failed to pay over $1 million in child support to a former girlfriend after they broke up in 1999, a judge ordered him to pay $6600 a month in child support and the payment was eventually upped to $8500. 

Unfortunately, Stevie stopped making payments sometime in 2001 and over the next 13 years he racked up an impressive $1.1 million worth of debt.
