However, his nickname, ‘Snakebite’, is derived from the designs his wife adds and not from the snakebite drink: ‘I just like snakes’.

Wright participated in the 1995 BDO World Darts Championship, where he was beaten by three sets to one by eventual champion Richie Burnett in the first round. He then spent the next ten years playing in local leagues in England. 

His wife Joanne was able to persuade Wright to restart his professional career after they had been watching the Grand Slam of Darts.
