Barba rose to prominence through the sixth season of American Idol. She attracted media scrutiny and outrage when her semi-nude pictures leaked online. Antonella Barba was born in Santa Monica, California on November 26, 1986, to Vincenzo and Valerie Barba. She moved with her parents to Point Pleasant, New Jersey. She began to play the violin at age four and later learnt how to play the violin. Antonella said children in her middle school and high school referred to her as the “violin girl” owing to her performances in talent shows.
She attended the Red Bank Catholic High School and participated in the choir for four years and was part of the school’s doo-wop group and as a senior, took a music theory course. She attended Catholic University of America to study architecture, she often sang with a friend from the musical theatre department while attending university.
At 18, She attempted the sixth season of American Idol, she did this with a high school friend in East Rutherford, New Jersey. She performed Deniece Williams’ 1976 single “Free” for her audition. Later in the show, she went on to sing Aerosmith’s “I don’t want to miss a thing”. Her performances received lots of negative responses from the show’s judges and television critics, but she received some negative responses to mixed reviews.
