Dani Harmer Early Life

She is an English actress, television personality and former singer. Dani Harmer’s parents are Jill, a former legal worker and children’s casting agent, and Andy Harmer, a mechanic and chauffeur.

Dani’s parents are divorced. Since the age of 5, she attended Stagecoach drama lessons. She won a scholarship to attend Redroofs Theatre School at the age of 7 and left with 3 GCSEs.

Dani Harmer was born in Bracknell, Berkshire on 8th February 1989. She gained recognition for her portrayal as Tracy Beaker in the CBBC series The Story of Tracy Beaker (2002–2005), Tracy Beaker Returns (2010–2012) and Tracy Beaker Survival Files (2011–2012). 

She has appeared in the BBC series, After You’ve Gone (2007–2008). Harmer also appeared in her own CBBC sitcom, Dani’s House (2008–2012) and its spin-off series Dani’s Castle (2013–2014). She presents Friday Download and continuity clips on the CBBC Channel.

Harmer went into the music business in 2008 and signed a £3m record deal with Universal Music Group. In September 2009, she recorded her debut album Superheroes and released the single and theme from Dani’s House, “Free”, but the album was never released and it was later confirmed she had abandoned her music career.

She appeared in Let’s Dance for Sport Relief in March 2012, alongside Tyger Drew-Honey. The duo reached the final, and became joint runners-up.  Harmer also appeared in the tenth series of the BBC ballroom dancing show, Strictly Come Dancing. 

Harmer was paired up with Vincent Simone and they both reached the grand final, finishing in fourth place. She made her stage debut at the age of 6 in the musical The Who’s Tommy in the West End.

She has starred in a number of pantomimes: Dolly Mixture in Snow White (2004), the title character in Peter Pan (2005, Alban Arena, 2006 in Worthing and 2010 in High Wycombe), Dick Whittington (2007, Wolverhampton Grand Theatre) and the title role in Cinderella with Joe Tracini (2011, York Barbican). 

Harmer also appeared as extra in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone; she was sitting in the Great Hall when the new students to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry took turns to visit the Sorting Hat.

However, her big break was when she landed the title role in CBBC’s dramedy series The Story of Tracy Beaker, which she starred in for five series and also the feature-length film, Tracy Beaker’s Movie of Me.

Harmer’s other TV credits include the ITV drama series Trial & Retribution, My Family, Pie in the Sky, The 10th Kingdom, Beast, Touch Me, I’m Karen Taylor, and the pilot for Coming of Age. She was also one of the presenters: known as “packers” in the 2006 series of the Saturday morning show, Mighty Truck of Stuff.
