Jordan Belfort is an entrepreneur, author and motivational speaker. He grew up in Bayside, Queens.

He went to high school and later to the University. Before starting his university education, Jordan exhibited a glimpse of his amazing sales talent as he made thousands of dollars from sales of ice cream.

Jordan obtained a bachelor degree in biology from the American University. He later furthered his education when he enrolled at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry but soon left as he felt it was a waste of his time.

Despite relative success, he confessed to perpetrating fraud with his company Stratton Oakmont which led to him being sentenced to prison for a period of 22 months.

Jordan got released and wrote a book about his life and business on Wall Street which he named “The Wolf of Wall Street“. The book was later made into a movie in 2013 that had Leonardo DiCaprio play as Jordan Belfort.

Jordan Ross Belfort was born into a Jewish family on the 9th of July 1962 in the city of New York. He started his first business in New York as he went into sales of meat and fish.

The business grew to the point of him employing workers and it sold tonnes of meat and fish weekly but it was soon struck by financial challenges and had to shut down.

With the help of a friend, Belfort secured a job as a broker at L.F. Rothschild but was sacked when the firm experienced financial difficulties. 

With the growing frustration, he started his firm Stratton Oakmont that was into the sales of stocks and securities. The company defrauded investors by selling them non-existing stocks which they had no knowledge of. With the proceeds from his business, he hosted lots of parties and became a drug addict.

Belfort’s company expanded to the point of having close to a thousand workers and over $1 billion in false stock. Stratton became a top priority to Financial Industry Regulatory Authority were suspicious of its activities but had no concrete evidence.

In 1999, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority was able to gather enough evidence that Stratton was into fraud and other illegal activities. This led to the closure of the firm and the persecution of Belfort.

Jordan Belfort surrendered himself and even made some confessions which led to him receiving a lighter sentence as he spent 22 months in prison and he was asked to pay back $110 million to those he had defrauded. While in prison, his cellmate Tommy Chong encouraged him to put his life story in a book which Belfort did.

After leaving prison, he became a motivational speaker and had his first presentation in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in 2014. Belfort has written two books namely ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ and ‘Catching the Wolf of Wall Street’.
