2025/2026 British Council Languages Teacher Training Scholarships.
The British Council is awarding scholarships, continuing professional development support and £28,000 of funding to talented individuals. The British Council’s Languages Teacher Training Scholarships (LTTS) program is designed to encourage and support individuals passionate about teaching modern foreign languages—specifically French, German, or Spanish—in England. For the 2025/2026 academic year, the program offers scholarships that include £28,000 in funding, along with continuing professional development support, to talented individuals committed to inspiring future generations of linguists.
To be eligible for the LTTS program, applicants must have either a 2:1 Bachelor of Honours degree (or equivalent) or a relevant PhD or Master’s degree in French, German, or Spanish. Candidates with a 2:2 degree or a degree in another subject may also be considered if they can demonstrate significant knowledge of the target language. Additionally, applicants must secure a place on an eligible non-salaried secondary Modern Foreign Languages teacher training course in England, leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), for the 2025/2026 academic year by September 2025.
The scholarship not only provides substantial financial support but also offers access to a range of professional development opportunities. Scholars benefit from a supportive network and resources aimed at enhancing their teaching skills and career prospects. This comprehensive support system is designed to equip aspiring language teachers with the necessary tools to succeed in their training and future teaching careers.
Applications for the LTTS program are currently open, with a deadline of March 3, 2025. Prospective applicants are encouraged to apply early to ensure all necessary information and documents are in place. The application process involves completing an online form and may require the submission of academic transcripts, proof of language proficiency, and details of the secured teacher training placement.
By offering these scholarships, the British Council aims to address the shortage of qualified language teachers in England and promote the study of modern foreign languages. The LTTS program plays a crucial role in fostering a new generation of educators who are passionate about languages and committed to delivering high-quality language education in schools across England.
