2025 IFAD Internship Programme For Students and Recent Graduates.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) offers a structured Internship Program designed to provide recent graduates and students with practical experience in areas aligned with IFAD’s mission to eradicate rural poverty and hunger. This six-month program is open to individuals aged 30 or younger who are either enrolled in an accredited university or have recently completed their undergraduate or postgraduate studies. Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of additional IFAD official languages, such as Arabic, French, or Spanish, is considered an advantage.

Interns engage in a variety of tasks, including supporting administrative and operational activities, conducting research, analyzing data, drafting reports, and participating in training sessions and events. The responsibilities assigned to interns are tailored to their field of study and the specific needs of the department to which they are assigned.

The program offers a monthly allowance to all interns. To promote geographic diversity, interns from developing countries who need to travel to their duty station may receive a higher monthly allowance to help cover housing and travel expenses. This support ensures that participants from different backgrounds can benefit equally from the opportunity.

IFAD Internship Program

IFAD’s Internship Program is available at its headquarters in Rome, Italy, as well as in various country offices and regional locations worldwide. This global reach provides interns with an in-depth understanding of IFAD’s operations and their impact in different contexts.

Applications for the Internship Program are accepted throughout the year, with specific deadlines depending on organizational needs. Prospective candidates can apply through IFAD’s online recruitment system, where current opportunities are listed.

Upon successful completion of the internship, participants receive performance evaluations and may become eligible for future employment opportunities within IFAD, subject to organizational policies and a mandatory waiting period. This ensures that the internship serves as a stepping stone for career development in international development.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development Internship Program offers a valuable platform for young professionals to gain hands-on experience in international development, contributing to meaningful projects that aim to improve the livelihoods of rural populations worldwide.

Young people provide invaluable knowledge, ideas and energy to society and the workplace. That’s why the International Fund for Agricultural Development offers six-month internship opportunities to recent university graduates or current students specializing in areas of work relevant to IFAD’s mission. Interns may pursue an additional six-month internship, accessing a different learning experience and broadening their exposure to IFAD’s areas of work.

IFAD’s mission is centered on providing financial and technical assistance to projects and programs that promote sustainable agriculture, rural development, and economic growth. It emphasizes participatory and inclusive approaches, ensuring that the voices of rural communities are heard and their specific needs addressed. By targeting vulnerable groups such as women, youth, and marginalized populations, IFAD works to reduce inequalities and foster resilience in rural areas.

Headquartered in Rome, Italy, IFAD operates globally through its partnerships with governments, non-governmental organizations, and local communities. It funds projects in areas such as agricultural productivity, natural resource management, rural infrastructure, and market access. Additionally, it addresses cross-cutting issues like climate change adaptation, gender equality, and social inclusion to ensure holistic and sustainable development.

The organization is financed through contributions from member states, loans, and co-financing arrangements with other development partners. IFAD’s unique financial model allows it to leverage resources effectively to maximize the impact of its investments. Projects funded by IFAD are designed to be scalable and replicable, ensuring their benefits extend beyond the immediate target areas.
