Lagos State Science Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC) STEM Challenge 2025.

The Lagos State Science Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC) STEM Challenge is a strategic initiative by the Lagos State Government aimed at fostering innovation, scientific research, and technological development among young people in the state. Established under the administration of the Lagos State Government, LASRIC was created to drive the state’s transformation into a hub for science, technology, and innovation (STI). The STEM Challenge specifically targets students, innovators, and entrepreneurs with creative solutions to real-world problems, encouraging the development of ideas that can drive economic growth and improve the quality of life in Lagos.

The challenge focuses on stimulating interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines by providing a platform for participants to showcase innovative ideas and projects. It is open to students from secondary schools, tertiary institutions, and young entrepreneurs who are passionate about solving societal challenges using technology and scientific research. Participants are encouraged to develop solutions in critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, transportation, renewable energy, education, and environmental sustainability—areas that align with Lagos State’s development goals.

One of the key components of the LASRIC STEM Challenge is the provision of funding and mentorship to participants with viable and impactful ideas. Winners of the challenge receive seed funding, grants, and access to incubation programs to help transform their concepts into scalable products and services. In addition to financial support, participants gain mentorship from industry experts, researchers, and policymakers who guide them in refining their ideas, understanding market dynamics, and navigating the business landscape.

The program also aims to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial application by encouraging collaboration between educational institutions, research centers, and private-sector organizations. This collaborative ecosystem is designed to nurture innovative solutions that can address Lagos State’s socio-economic challenges while creating new opportunities for job creation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.

The LASRIC STEM Challenge serves as a catalyst for developing a technology-driven economy in Lagos by promoting a culture of innovation and problem-solving among the youth. By empowering young innovators, the program contributes to the state’s ambition of becoming a leading center for technology and innovation in Africa. It also aligns with global trends emphasizing the importance of STEM education in driving economic competitiveness and resilience in the digital age.

The LASRIC STEM Challenge reflects the Lagos State Government’s commitment to investing in science, technology, and innovation as key drivers of sustainable development.
