Dana Perino Early Life

Dana Marie Perino is an American political commentator, Analyst and published author. Born May 9, 1972 in Evanston, Wyoming to Janice and Leo Perino. She grew up in Denver Colorado where she attended Ponderosa High school, she went on to graduate from Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and minors in both political science and Spanish

Dana Perino Career

Her career began in the university days as she was on the university’s forensics team and worked at KTSC-TV. She also worked at KCCY-FM on the 2 to 6 a.m. shift. Perino went on to obtain a master’s degree in public affairs reporting from the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS). During which, she also worked for WCIA, a CBS affiliate, as a daily reporter covering the Illinois Capitol.

Next, she worked in Washington, D.C. for Congressman Scott McInnis as a staff assistant and later served for almost four years as the press secretary for Rep. Dan Schaefer up until 1998.

In November 2001, Perino secured a position as a spokesperson for the Department of Justice, in which capacity she served for two years. Whilst also joining the White House staff as the Associate director of communications for the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), where she provided strategic advice on message development, media relations and public outreach.

She served as the deputy press secretary from 2005 up until 2007, when she became the twenty-fourth White House Press Secretary, serving under President George W. Bush. This marked a milestone in her career as she became only the second female to have served in the capacity of White House press secretary.

After her time in the white house she became a political commentator for Fox News, and a regular co-host on the talk show, “The Five”. She is the Editorial Director for Crown Forum, the conservative publishing arm of Crown Publishing Group and she also started a podcast “Perino & Stirewalt: I’ll Tell you what” on the Fox News Channel. All these responsibilities she juggles perfectly combining with teaching a class in political communications part-time at George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management.
