The AU Emerging Global Leader (EGL) Scholarship is a prestigious opportunity provided by American University (AU) in the United States. It is designed to support one exceptional international student who intends to pursue higher education in the United States. The scholarship is a testament to AU’s commitment to promoting educational access and enhancing global diversity within its student body.
This scholarship is comprehensive, covering all billable expenses at AU, which includes full tuition, room, and board. Essentially, the recipient’s tuition fees, housing, and meals are fully funded, providing substantial financial support to ease the financial burden associated with studying in the United States.
It’s important to clarify that while the AU EGL scholarship encompasses billable expenses, it does not extend to non-billable costs. Non-billable expenses consist of mandatory health insurance, textbooks, airfare, and various miscellaneous costs, which are estimated to total approximately $4,000 annually. Thus, the scholarship beneficiary is responsible for managing these non-billable expenses.
The essence of the AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship goes beyond financial support. It embraces AU’s core values, which encompass academic excellence, leadership development, and global engagement. The AU EGL scholar embodies these values and strives to achieve, inspire, and serve with a vision for positive civic and social change.
The scholarship recipient commits to returning to their home country after completing their studies to make a meaningful impact on under-resourced and underserved communities. This dedication to giving back to their home country is a central tenet of the AU EGL scholarship, emphasizing the importance of education in driving positive change in societies worldwide.
Benefits
The scholarship provides everything from full tuition, fees, room and board for one first-year (freshman) high-achieving international student
Duration: It is renewable for a total of four years of undergraduate study, based on continued satisfactory academic performance.
