The Chevening-Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS) Fellowships target mid-career academics and professionals committed to advancing academic endeavors that promote a deeper and more informed comprehension of the culture, civilization, and contemporary dynamics within Islam and Muslim societies.
Programme structure
The Fellowship program entails a self-directed research period lasting for six months, with a primary focus on the culture and civilization of Islam and contemporary Muslim societies within a global context. During this period, Fellows will engage in in-depth research on their chosen project, drawing from a diverse range of disciplines and perspectives.
Participating Fellows will have the unique opportunity to interact with a multidisciplinary community of scholars who specialize in the Islamic world. This environment will enable them to establish valuable connections with experts in various fields. Discussions and exchanges will encompass a wide array of topics related to the Islamic world, including classical Islamic sciences, Islamic history, economics and Islamic finance, public health, science and technology in Muslim-majority regions, and the study of Muslim communities in Western societies.
By joining this Fellowship program, participants will actively contribute to the Center’s overarching goal of fostering sustained dialogue and collaboration within the global academic community focused on the culture and civilization of Islam and contemporary Muslim societies.
The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS) serves as an esteemed institution dedicated to the advanced study of Islam and the Muslim world. It plays a crucial role as a meeting point, bridging the realms of Western and Islamic learning.
This fellowship initiative is scheduled to commence in October 2024. Fellows are expected to formulate their research projects before arriving in the United Kingdom to make the most of their fellowship experience.
