The BWCC Startup track represents a hybrid pitch competition structured in three rounds, aiming to unearth WorkplaceTech startups transforming how we work. Participating startups will showcase their technologies before HR experts, business leaders, and SHRM members, vying for a chance to secure $50,000 and propel their business forward.
The SHRMLabs Better Workplaces Challenge Cup (BWCC) Startup Track Competition is a prestigious global event powered by SHRM, aiming to spotlight innovative solutions revolutionizing workplaces. Specifically designed for WorkplaceTech startups, this competition acts as a three-round hybrid pitch platform.
Startups participating in the BWCC Startup Track Competition present their cutting-edge technologies that address and resolve critical challenges faced within workplaces. These presentations are made before a distinguished panel comprising HR experts, business leaders, and SHRM members, offering participants an opportunity to vie for a grand prize of $50,000.
Commencing in March 2024, the competition’s first round is divided into five segments, each focusing on distinct HR categories. Within each segment, five companies specializing in the same category are selected to compete. Winners from each segment proceed to the semi-finals. From the semi-finals, the top three startups advance to the final round, where they engage in a live and in-person showdown at SHRM’s Annual Conference and Expo in Chicago, IL, scheduled for June 24, 2024.
The BWCC Startup Track Competition serves as an invaluable platform for emerging Workplace Tech startups to showcase their innovations, gain exposure, and potentially secure funding while contributing innovative solutions to transform and improve workplaces globally.

Requirements For The SHRMLabs BWCC Startup Track Competition
- Company must be an early-stage startup in the workplace tech, HR tech, Future of Work, or Human Capital Services market.
- Company must be a for-profit company established with a management team and public-facing website.
- Company must be able to convey a business model and demonstrate traction, engagement, and adoption metrics.
- Company cannot have raised more than $5 million in total outside funding at the time of the application.
- Company cannot have earned more than $5 million in revenue at the time of the application.
- Workplace solution must directly contribute to better workplaces. In particular, we will be looking for solutions in the following workplace market segments, though others are encouraged to apply:

- Innovation: Assessing the degree of innovation and disruption inherent in your solution, gauging its uniqueness and potential to reshape the status quo.
- Scalability: Evaluating the extent to which your solution has the potential to make a substantial, positive impact on the lives and work of countless employees on a large scale.
- Impact: Measuring the capacity of your business to cultivate thriving workplaces where the objectives of employers and employees harmonize effectively, resulting in a meaningful and positive influence.
- Alignment to SHRM: Determining how your solution aligns with the core values and objectives of SHRM to enhance the efficiency and strategic prowess of HR professionals, ultimately contributing value to SHRM members and their organizations.
