Do you require assistance on a full-time basis to get started with research at the National Institute of Genetics and to make a difference there? You are one of the qualified candidates for the National Institutes of Health Postdoctoral Fellowship Grant for International Students in 2024.

For international students, the NIG Postdoctoral Fellowship Grant 2024 is a fellowship opportunity that comes with complete funding. There is a possibility of yearly reappointment, and the employment term might be anywhere from one to three years, beginning on the first day of employment.

The recipient of this fellowship will receive a yearly income of approximately 4,100,000 JPY (taxes included), membership in a mutual society providing health insurance, a commuting stipend (subject to restrictions), and compensation insurance.

Program Duration: The period of employment is up to 3 years from the initial date of hire, with the possibility of annual reappointment.

The National Institute of Genetics (abbreviated as “NIG”) has as its primary mission the recruitment of exceptional young researchers for the position of NIG postdoctoral research fellows (abbreviated as “NIG postdocs”) and the involvement of these individuals in the research activities conducted at the institute for a predetermined amount of time. The National Institutes of Health’s (NIG) mission is to advance scientific knowledge while simultaneously cultivating highly skilled researchers.

The Ministry of Education established the National Institute of Genetics (NIG) in 1949 with the goal of conducting in-depth and practical genetic research. This encompasses both theoretical and foundational research, in addition to the education and promotion of genetic science.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Postdoctoral Fellowship provides recipients with the following benefits:

In order to be considered for the NIG Postdoctoral Fellowship at the National Institute of Genetics in Japan, applicants must demonstrate that they satisfy the following requirements:

The mandatory language is going to be English.

It is possible to apply from any country in the world.

possess the necessary research abilities to successfully carry out genetic research activities.

Have a doctoral degree or its equivalent, or be on track to get one before the position’s start date, whichever comes first.

Applicants are not permitted to be those who have ever participated in the NIG program prior to March 31, 2023. This includes graduate students at SOKENDAI’s Department of Genetics as well as current and formerly employed postdocs, members of NIG’s technical staff, and other personnel. We do not take into account internships or other short-term travel experiences.

It is expected of NIG postdocs that they will actively contribute to the expansion of NIG research. It is mandatory for members of the NIG to attend the poster sessions, retreats, and colloquia hosted by the group. The National Institutes of Health often do not accept research proposals that involve lengthy stays at universities or other institutes outside of the NIG.

NIG postdocs have an obligation to present a summary of their work at the NIG colloquium at the conclusion of their employment with the organization.

Any publication that results from this research must give credit to the National Institutes of Health for financing the postdoctoral position.

(2) Prepare the following documents (Forms 1 to 4) using the specified forms, which can be downloaded from the provided link. Keep the following points in mind when preparing the documents:

  • Applications should be filled out in either Japanese or English.
  • Formats 2 and 4 allow for the insertion of figures and the use of color.
  • Do not modify the layout, size (A4), or number of pages.
  • Include 2 reference letters from your supervisor and the host PI.
