Health Benefits of Charcoal

The process of making charcoal involves burning carbon-rich materials like wood, peat, coconut shells, or sawdust, to very high temperature.

This burning process takes away all previously absorbed molecules and frees up bonding sites again. Charcoal has a lot of toxin-clearing properties, that is why some researchers believe that it could be used as a treatment for our teeming population.

Let us look at some of the health benefits of charcoal.

Kidney Health

Activated charcoal may be able to assist kidney function by filtering out undigested toxins and drugs. It has been used to help improve kidney function and reduce gastrointestinal damage and inflammations caused by kidney disease.

An animal research carried out showed that rats that were induced with chronic renal failure were fed mixtures containing 20 percent activated charcoal. Their kidney function also is improved and also reduces the rate of kidney inflammation and damage.

Intestinal Gas

This man made mineral has the ability to disrupt intestinal gas. It has not been known yet how.

Charcoal absorbs the liquid and gas caught in the intestine and can easily be neutralized. This research was carried out on some people and it turned out positive.

Water Filtration

People have actually used activated charcoal as a natural filter. Just the same way it does in the intestines and stomach. It clears all impurities found in water. It is used commercially for filtration processes too.

It treats diarrhea. This is because it is used as a gastrointestinal absorbent in overdoses and poisonings. It prevents bacteria and drugs that can cause diarrhea from being absorbed into the body by trapping them on its porous, textured surface.

Whitens Teeth

Drinks like coffee, tea, wine and edibles, cause our teeth to be coloured. Activated charcoal helps whiten teeth while promoting good oral health by changing the ph balance in the mouth. It also helps prevent cavities, bad breath and gum disease.

It helps absorb plaque and microscopic properties that stain teeth.

Dip a wet toothbrush into a powdered activated charcoal. Brush, especially the most stained areas, leave on for a few minutes and rinse.

Good for Skin and Body

It treats body conditions like body odour and acne. Gives relief  from insect bites and rashes caused by poison.
