26. Jessica Biel – Powder Blue

Jessica Biel is a member of an ensemble of highly accomplished cast members, in a 2008 film drama that features several twisted story arcs that develop into surprising interconnections. Patrick Swayze’s character is one of those stereo-type sweaty-palmed, girly club owners where Biel’s character, Rose-Johnny dances at night. She is a troubled single mom with a sense of desperation, and son who lies in a coma.

As the cast lines up, Ray Liotta, Kris Kristopherson, Lisa Kudrow, and Forest Whitaker, the producer and actor who’s character is an ex-priest. Many of these characters take some unexpected turns and reveal interrelated links. The film did not do as well as expected and quickly went to DVR. Critics found the plot to be overly done and contrived, with the cinematography color-palette garish in reds and blues and “blinding whites” creating, or adding to the hysteria.

It’s understandable, considering she’d be working with such an experienced cast, that Jennifer took the chances she did with this film.
